Hermusa

On the 19th June 2006, I submitted website ‘H’ (using Hermusa) to 44 websites that had been automatically picked out as matches or relevant to the website I was submitting. At the time of submission, the Hermusa internal website database was up-to-date.

First off, the results 1 month after submission. These are based upon searches carried out across Google, MSN and Yahoo search engines for the set of targeted keywords as reported by WebCEO.

Number Of Top 100 Search Ranking Positions

These are rankings positions for the targeted keywords as reported by WebCEO.

Google
No placings found in the first 100 results.

MSN
No placings found in the first 100 results.

Yahoo
1 listing @ postition 45 out of a possible 490,000.
1 listing @ postition 89 out of a possible 563,000.
1 listing @ postition 75 out of a possible 341,000.
1 listing @ postition 40 out of a possible 429,000.

Number Of Inbound Links Shown By Search Engines

These are as reported by WebCEO.

Google
No inbound links found. Google tends to be shy about divulging inbound links anyhow so it’s not a great measure to use.

MSN
No inbound links found.

Yahoo
Two inbound links found (one from an external website, one from itself)

Websites Submitted To

The websites used by Hermusa aren’t openly published however, of the 43 that I could identify:

  • 16 were non-functional i.e. there were no websites in place, only holding pages were showing, or the domain was either expired or not registered at all. 1 website was so badly constructed that none of the links were working and all of the images were missing.
  • All of the 28 of the websites that functional appeared to be generated using software; featuring a selection of pseudo search results and syndicated articles.
  • 25 of the functional websites feature AdSense ads. This is considered by many to be a negative ranking factor in all of the big three search engines.
  • 2 of the functional websites were primarily selling traffic.
  • Only 1 website responded to my website submission, saying that my link had been published, but without a reciprocal link would be removed within 7 days. Those 7 days have been and gone and my listing is still on their website.

Traffic Statistics

According to AWStats, none of website ‘H’s traffic has ever come directly from search engines.

Hermusa Summary

Given the overall poor selection of websites that Hermusa chose to submit to, I’m surprised at just how well the results turned out. Considering almost half of the websites submitted to were non-functional and that only a single PR2 website published my link, the Yahoo rankings turned out aboce expectations.

Clearly, the database that Hermusa used in test was severely out of date. Based upon the results, I can only assume that with a better quality database the results would have been much more impressive. As it is, the results are as good as they are all because of a single link from a website.
