New Niche Content Website Under Development

June 30th, 2007

A couple of days ago, I started developing a new website that’s covering a topic where there’s plenty of money being spent and lots of interest. It’s a popular industry, but this particular segment of the market isn’t too saturated with existing competition. I’m thinking it’ll be relatively easy to obtain good search engine rankings for as this type of site is always popular and very linkable.

When considering niches in which to build websites, it’s all too easy to be sucked into the same old credit card and bank loans topics. Whilst these topics may have a lot of interest from both suppliers and consumers, trying to get a new website established in them can be difficult due to the sheer number of competing websites.

Facts are facts. When it comes to content, there are only so many ways you can write about, for example, the benefits of mini cash ISAs. When you’ve got thousands of competitors all trying to relay the same facts then you’re facing an uphill struggle to get a new website ranked.

In order to have your website stand out from the crowd and be noticed, it needs to be different from the rest. One of the easiest ways in which to do this is to interject some personal experience. Not only does this help to make your content different, but also potentially more valuable because you’ve knowledge that can help other people. So, instead of just touting the benefits of mini cash ISAs, tell people which financial institutions offered you the best ISA.

This is exactly the approach that I’m going to take with my new website. It’s going to take some time and effort on my part, but it’s something that I’ll enjoy writing about and I’ve already got some ideas on how to promote the website. Writing articles for distribution will be easy because I’ve lots of recent personal experience to write about and using the likes of YouTube will again be easy because I recorded some video specifically for that purpose.

Once the website has some decent SERPs and PageRank then I’ll start to look at monetising it. Text link ads and Google AdSense are going to be on the cards. I’ll also be able to display some ads for relevant goods from Amazon too. I’ve already got a number of semi-static content websites using a similar blend of monetisation streams and they work very well consistently bringing in a steady income month after month. I like them a lot because they’re virtually fire and forget.

To help bring new content to the website, I’ll accept questions and comments which can then be published on the website giving me yet more relevant content and giving the readers more of what they want.

The website itself is built upon a version of WordPress that’s configured to make it appear more like a static website. The template, a modified version of the default, is already complete. Now, I’m just writing the content and editing the multimedia. With a few hours work, it should be good enough to start promoting and then I’ll just continue adding content over time.
