Disco Stu has tagged me for 5 reasons why I blog. So here goes!
There may actually be more than 5 reasons, but here are the first 5 I can think of:
1. To get involved. When blogging first came about, I couldn’t see attraction of keeping what seemed to be an online diary. There were plenty of forums for interacting with people and I just couldn’t see what possible benefit blogging could provide. It took a little while and I can’t remember the exact moment when I thought, “I think I’ll start a blog”, but I was curious about the reports I kept reading of how the blogosphere was having an uncontrollable, social impact on the rest of the Internet and decided to learn more about it.
2. To ‘network’. One of the things I love about blogging is the openness, the ease at which you can find others with a particular interest and start a dialogue with them. Blogging is a great social enabler, breaking down barriers and giving anyone with Internet access the ability to reach right into the heart of the biggest corporations e.g. Matt Cutts of Google and ICANN.
3. To discuss. As well as the initial contact, there’s the continual discussion that you can have with fellow bloggers. It’s a lot more personal than a forum. When you read my blog, you’re stepping into my space and you’re very welcome!
4. To share. I’d like to think that in some way, at least some of what I publish will be of value to someone in some way even if it’s only entertainment value. Sometimes, you get from giving! e.g. Creating PDF Files With Clickable Anchor Text Links, How To Put An XML Feed On Your Webpage.
5. To be heard. In a world where we’re constantly being interrupted when we’re watching our favourite TV programmes, when we’re trying to get some work done and the emails keep pouring in or the telephone keeps ringing, it’s nice to be able to take your time, to compose something before expressing it.
There you have it. I’ve taken some time, to compose some of my thoughts. Now it’s my turn to prompt a few others to do the same.
