One of the more recent web gadgets I’ve installed on this blog is a ClustrMap. As well as providing you and your visitors a fun and interesting way to see where your readers are in the world, a ClustrMap can also help you sell ad slots on your website.
Advertisers like to know what they’re buying when they consider websites to advertise on and yet much of the information that would usually help to close such a deal is hidden away in your website statistics. There are many reasons why you would want to keep your website statistics out of the public view, but there are some elements which can give a prospective advertiser good reason to look closer at your offer.
At a glance, ClustrMaps tell an advertiser how much traffic your website is receiving and exactly where visitors are coming from. For someone who is selling a geographically specific product or service, this type of information is very valuable. Traffic stats from the likes of Alexa won’t be able to capture every visitor you receive (unless you’ve got one of their gadgets installed) nor where they’re originating from. That ClustrMaps are a third party service helps to convey the authenticity of the information relayed.
It’s a free service as long as you only receive a modest amount of traffic so if you’re an ad seller why haven’t you got a ClustrMap installed?
