Well, I've finally caved and let Windows Update do it's bit by installing IE7. Since it's being rolled out this way more and more people will be using it so it's going to become even more important to ensure websites look right in it!

IE7 seems OK to me. I've been using it a few months now and I like the tabbed interface and the enhanced security warnings.

I have only one problem. Sometimes when I close a tab, all the other tabs close and the browser too. Not all the time, but sometimes.

I guess MS will have a fix for it, so in the mean time I limit my use of tabs to within a certain domain or website. That way if the browser closes all the other tabs at least it's just for a particular site.

Other than that, I like IE7.

I'm loathe to replace Firefox 1.5.x with 2.0 simply because I've customised the browser nicely with useful extensions that may not be 2.0 compatible.

I agree with you - Windows 2000 and Windows NT were much better platforms from Microsoft. As far as I am concerned, I never try any new product from Microsoft till the bugs in their initial version are fixed and a stable version is released; I hate applying the patches they release.

I have installed Firefox 2.0 and I like some of the new features like real-time spell checker, anti-phishing features, and numerous add-ons to customize your browser. They say that the browser freezes once in a while, but I did not experience it on my machine so far.

Sarah, like you, I do some web design/development work for clients and I'm wondering just what kind of impact the mass introduction of the new browser release is going to cause on existing and future designs.

I really should install it on a PC, if only to check browser compatibility...

Windows 2000 is ace! I was using the pro version for many years, through many hardware upgrades and lots of software installations.

Unfortunately (or fortunately) I use Windows 2000 thus have an obsolete OS as far as MS are concerned for IE7!

However I have seen it in action and I don't think it's rendering sites as bad anymore.
