How Not To Make Money With Domain Names And Pay Per Click

August 24th, 2006

Microsoft is setting its lawyers on a group of men who’ve registered over 400 domain names that are related in some way to its company or products. Domains such as 1microsoft67.info, halo2player.com, freehotmail.net, genuinewindowsvista.com, and windowshome.info were parked and configured to display pay per click adverts.

As tempting as it might be to target the typo market, potentially infringing registered trademarks (especially of a giant like M$), it’s patently not very clever to do so.

There’s talk about one of the accused is a member of the Warrior Forum; an Internet marketer just like you and I.
Get the full details here and keep a check on those domains.

  1. Also, one should not go for any domain name which has the word ebay in it. Ebay lawyers make sure that such sites are taken down soon. ISPs like Ipowerweb won’t even allow you to purchase/park any domain which has the word ebay in it. I had that experience once when I was trying to book a domain like topebaystores.com.

Well, the problem started because of many unscrupulous guys setting up bogus ebay sites (phishing) to get credit card information of naive customers.

  2. You can add any trademark to that warning although I doubt most are as watchful as the bigger brands like the Easy Group or Epson.
