The Hidden Dangers of PLR Software

July 11th, 2006

If you’ve ever purchased a piece of PLR software for “you to do with whatever you want” then you might be interested to learn that you might have also received an unannounced bonus…

There is a hidden danger with a lot of the software sold with private label rights. PLR software in particular is more susceptible to this problem because it’s often supplied without any support.

The danger I’m referring to is the very real possibility of bugs in the software that without developer support can render it unusable.

The problem can be attributed to a lack of ignorance on both sides of the transaction fence; the sellers don’t realise that all software needs support and the buyers don’t realise that nearly all software has bugs even if they haven’t yet been found.

The software development lifecycle should always include a period of warranty support. With PLR, the software applications are often sold as seen and the latter part of that lifecycle is left in your hands as the software’s new owner.

The problem lies in the bugs and security holes that you don’t or can’t see before you’ve handed over your money.

I once had a number of websites set up with one of the many articles directories that were introduced to the IM market a few months ago. After a couple of weeks of being live, I started noticing a large number of failed emails being bounced back to me. These were eventually tracked down to somebody exploiting a security hole in the article directory software, but not before thousands of spam emails were sent out from my website.

Not only was this heavy processing load impacting everything else on the server it shared, but it was also risking the server’s main IP address being added to any number of email blacklists.

To be fair, the article directory software I had problems with was supplied, as many PLR products are, without warranty.

The source code is yours to do with whatever you want!

What’s not made so clear is that any bugs are also your responsiblity and many buyers simply aren’t able to see much further than the dollar signs in front of their eyes.

Unfortunately for them, there are always hackers and crackers looking to provide the buyer with a large dose of wake-up call.

Don’t be fooled into thinking that PLR software is better for you because it doesn’t tie you in with the provider There are many benefits to having a well supported product.

Before your next purchase of PLR software, ask about aftersales support, especially bug fixing.

  1. I have to say that lack of support is a “keyword” for lots of internet marketing merchants. well over a month ago i sent ros gardner and jim edwards an email asking about a pop under sign up for their newsletter thingy I have. I got back a response from ros’s exec asst, basically saying he has no freaking clue but will pass the question along, I still havent heard back, same on the jim edwards front. My thing is … if they arent going to invest their time in me with support why should support them as an affiliate. Know what I mean.
Lack of support is problem on the net period

  2. Hey Shane,

It’s pretty difficult to offer support on questions that include terms and phrases like ‘a pop under sign up for their newsletter thingy I have’. :-)

    Cheers,
    Ros

  3. With regards to the article directory script I mentioned having problems with, it looks as if I’m not the only one…

  4. Well, if one is going to sell the PLR software it is better that he buys it from respected membership sites like sourcecode goldmine. However, if you just want to buy it for personal use on a short term basis, you can find the same piece of software being traded on ebay for a fraction of its original price.

I’d like to understand why you think that’s the case since the problematic article directory software I’m referring to above was sourced from a Sourcecode Goldmine!

Don’t make the mistake of assuming you’ll receive the support you’ll need by buying from a familiar name.

Always ensure you fully understand the terms and conditions before committing your money.

  6. Registerfly is stealing our domains
They don’t renew the domains in time
They don’t give as the auth code and they don’t unlock our domains to transfer them to another registrar so our domains are expiring and they use them.
(in the past they stole my domains http://www.cyprusltd.com and http://www.cyprus-ltd.com and now they Stole greek-tour.net, Your-Travel-Guide.net which expired and they didn’t renew them)

Perhaps registerfy.com and enom.com are the same company because registerfly.com stole my domains http://www.cyprusltd.com and http://www.cyprus-ltd.com and now I see that are hosted to enom.com and play ads for enom.com

They connect with advertising companies or they have their one advertising company and they take advantage of the being registars and they are stealing domains from their customers which they use them to show advertising links for them.!!!
Internet is full of complaints about registerfly, it is a fraud company.
How do you let them be in business for so long.

Please someone HELP ME in order to leave from these crops.
