The other major skill set that is required is exactly where and how to release the information.
For me this is my largest stumbling block, not the what to write or how to write it but to who and when.

Any thoughts ?

A very valid point, Andres. As with other types of writing, it can take some training and practice to become proficient at writing press releases. Fortunately, there are plenty of free/low cost resources that aspiring authors can make use of.

I'd suggest that anyone unsure of whether or not they're up to the job of writing press releases at least try submitting a release before dismissing their abilities completely. The worst that can happen is your release will be initially rejected.

Press agencies want fresh news and if you're willing to provide it to them then it's likely they'll try and help. PRWeb for example, provide some useful tips and there are plenty of examples to be looked at to get a feel of how a release is written.

I agree that Press Releases are one excellent way to promote a WebSite since it's a joint venture. However, no all people have the skills needed to write high impact press releases.
