The author of one of my all-time favourite Internet marketing books (Super Affiliate Handbook), Rosalind Gardner, recently commented on using press releases for the purpose of marketing affiliate sites.
Coincidentally, I recently issued a press release (to multiple agencies for free using Press Equalizer) about a viral tool I was offering that as well as being useful also promoted a $300 product. The result was several hundred dollars in commission and a number of additional backlinks from well-established websites for a couple of hours work!
The technique is along similar lines to writing and submitting articles to gain credibility, attract visitor traffic and establish backlinks from websites that syndicate content. When you’re using these techniques, you should always do your best to write for the reader first and to promote yourself second.
I’ve always found that well-written content will reap more benefits and you might be surprised at just how far your content reaches when you put some effort into writing something that people will want to read rather than just publish for the sake of content.

I agree that Press Releases are one excellent way to promote a WebSite since it’s a joint venture. However, no all people have the skills needed to write high impact press releases.

A very valid point, Andres. As with other types of writing, it can take some training and practice to become proficient at writing press releases. Fortunately, there are plenty of free/low cost resources that aspiring authors can make use of.
I’d suggest that anyone unsure of whether or not they’re up to the job of writing press releases at least try submitting a release before dismissing their abilities completely. The worst that can happen is your release will be initially rejected.
Press agencies want fresh news and if you’re willing to provide it to them then it’s likely they’ll try and help. PRWeb for example, provide some useful tips and there are plenty of examples to be looked at to get a feel of how a release is written.
The other major skill set that is required is exactly where and how to release the information.
For me this is my largest stumbling block, not the what to write or how to write it but to who and when.
Any thoughts ?
