On Saturday 28th January 2006, I received an email from Mike Filsaime that said amongst other things,
“I registered the domain 18 months ago this week.”
He was of course referring to ButterflyMarketing.com.
Mike continues in his email,
“I want to let you know that this was not an idea that came to my head and rushed to market.”
Well, I thought I’d just step back in time and take a look at just what the website looked like back around the time it was born. Thanks to the magic of the Internet Archive, this is possible.
Using the Internet Archive’s archive of ButterflyMarketing.com, I was surprised to see that there was activity on the domain further back than 18 months. Checking the current WHOIS records, it seems Mike first registered the domain back on 31st August 2004.
Looking at the Archive’s snapshot created just after 31st August 2004, I was expecting to see a holding page for the current offering. I was surprised to actually find a sales page for a Butterfly Marketing Report and Plug-N-Play Membership Site for just $297.
It’s quite interesting to note the differences between the that version of the salesletter and the current one e.g.
- the report has now become a manuscript,
- the Plug-N-Play membership site script’s value has increased an order of magnitude from $497 to $4997
- one of the headlines has changed from “Man Makes $200,000 Per Year Running The One Of The Largest Volume Car Dealerships In The World” to “General Manager Made Over $180,000 Per Year Running One Of The Largest Volume Car Dealerships In The World“
Definitely, a excellent chance to see how one of the biggest names in Internet Marketing turned $297 into $997.
And please, only adults should visit the 21st July 2002 version of ButterflyMarketing.com…

Did anybody have success using the butterfly marketing course?
The buzz is over now and I do not heard anything about it anymore.
Michael Cheney is reported to be just one of a few very successful graduates of the Butterfly Marketing course.
